Nowy Theatre in Kraków was founded in 2006 by Piotr Sieklucki and a group of young artists and graduates of Kraków's universities. The first venue was located in Gazowa Street, and in 2016, the theatre was moved to Krakowska Street, where it operates to this day.
In 2019, already at the new place, Nowy Theatre changed its name to the Proxima Nowy Theatre. The theatre is a non-governmental organisation, whose activity includes promoting the latest dramas and debuts by actors and directors, producing plays and concerts, social activism (60+ – The New Age of Culture), education, publishing and organising exhibitions. The Theatre has a set repertoire, presenting a number of plays on a schedule for some time, then changing its entire programme, replacing old shows with premieres. Nowy Theatre stages plays that break taboos and deal with contemporary issues. The Theatre also did not forget about the youngest audience members, preparing performances such as The Little Prince King Matt the First. Many of its productions have received positive reviews from critics and were presented during national and international festivals. The Theatre collaborates with numerous renowned actors and artists, such as Andrzej Grabowski, Edward Linde-Lubaszenko, Daniel Olbrychski, Sonia Bohosiewicz, Urszula Dudziak and Krystyna Czubówna.
