The Polish legionaries from the First Infantry Regiment and the Austro-Hungarian soldiers clashed with the forces of the tsarist Ninth Army commanded by General Leczycki near Krzywopłoty in the vicinity of the forested Świętego Krzyża Mount on November 16–19, 1914.
The Russians incurred heavy losses on the Poles, with the passive stance of the remainder of the Austro-Hungarian forces. Finally, on November 19, the attack of the Austro-Hungarian forces conducted on the entire front line in the vicinity of Krzywopłoty ended up in success – the nearby Domaniewicki Forest was conquered and the defeated Russian forces had to retreat to the east.
