The bell-tower was erected next to St. Nicholas’ Church in 1991. The earlier bell-tower from the first half of the C16th burnt down in 1987.
It was built from oak wood, arranged to a square plan and set on stone foundations. That wooden building with a pyramidal shingled cupola was among the most precious historic monuments of religious wood construction. The current building is a faithful reconstruction. The framework of the bell-tower consists of nine powerful pillars. Four are on the quoins and the others are placed halfway along each wall. The central pillar, known as the king, reaches right up to the pyramidal roof. Worth seeing in the area! Places which must necessarily be visited when staying in Bochnia are: “Bochnia” salt mine, Basilica of St. Nicolas and the Prof. Stanisław Fischer Museum, situated at the Market Square, in the historic building of the former Dominican monastery. It is also worth seeing the synagogues at ul. Floris (currently a restaurant) and at ul. Trudna (now the bank branch).
