The history of the ‘Jan’ spring flowing at the site of today’s pump room dates back to the second half of the 19th century, when it was discovered by Jan Bojanowski, an employee of the health resort. The spring is named Jan in honour of its discoverer. Thanks to doctor Henry Ebers, the spring was equipped with a concrete basin and topped with a wooden gazebo. A water called ‘Józef’ is also extracted here.

The ‘Jan’ Pump Room is one of three water pump rooms in Krynica-Zdrój, along with the Main Pump Room and the Słotwinka Pump Room, which are all available to visitors.

The current pump room was built between 1922 and 1923 as a result of the reconstruction of two wooden pavilions over the ‘Józef’ and ‘Jan’ springs. It is a small larch building in the Zakopane style. After the recent general renovation, visitors to Krynica-Zdrój can once again make full use of the building: rest and relax in comfortable conditions and enjoy the famous ‘Jan’ water as well as the ‘Józef’ water, available only in this pump room. ‘Jan’ helps in the treatment and prevention of disorders of the urinary system, gallbladder, liver and metabolic diseases (diabetes, obesity). ‘Józef’, on the other hand, is diuretic, weakly cholagogic, a curative for anaemia and is generally strengthening. The facility also offers the ‘Zuber’ water, which is regarded as one of the most strongly mineralised waters in Europe. It helps with gastrointestinal disorders, liver disorders and diabetes.

The Krynica-Żegiestów health resort has dozens of water intakes, seven of which are used for drinking cures (crenotherapy): Zdrój Główny, Słotwinka, ‘Jan’, ‘Józef’, ‘Mieczysław’, ‘Tadeusz’ and ‘Zuber’.
