For more than 40 years, in Bukowina Tatrzańska an event known as the “Highlander Carnival” has been held in winter. For five days, the audience may see all the best of highlander folklore. During the event, regional bands and folk groups perform, competitions of carol singers and dance competitions are held, including competition of zbójnicki dance and dance couples from Podhale, Spiš and Orava. Each time, the organisers, i.e. the employees of the Bukowina Cultural Centre “Folk House” invite the star of the event, who adds splendour to the event with his/her concert. You may also expect folklore exhibitions, at which masters of wood-carving, artistic furniture making, artists specialising in products of metal and leather, glass painting and lacemaking present their craft. There is also a presentation of Polish Tatra Sheepdogs. Evening events and the main concert are ticketed. A detailed programme of the event may be found on the website of the Folk House in Bukowina Tatrzańska, which is the main stage of the event: http://www.domludowy.pl. The event is nationwide and its importance is underlined by the fact in 1996 Bukowina Tatrzańska was admitted to the Federation European Carnival Cities.
